Remediation and Reclamation |
|
The most effective remediation and reclamation plans allow immediate mobilization for fast-track investigations, designs and remedial efforts. That’s why a single-source supplier is ideal for these assignments. The supplier can reduce time needed, and increase accountability throughout the investigation, design, construction and execution cycle. It's important, however, that your consultants are fully aware of international regulatory issues, and sensitive to community concerns about human health and ecological risks. From Investigations to Closures MWH is ideal for these types of complex projects. We’ve completed hundreds of successful remediation and reclamation projects for governmental, industrial and mining organizations worldwide. Over the years, we've handled everything from initial site investigations to remediation system operations and site closures. This includes decommissioning, decontaminating and dismantling nuclear facilities. Ninety-five percent of assets deployed to generate profits for an industrial client are above ground. That's why before we craft a solution, we consider how your business generates cash and how you define critical success factors. When MWH implements a program, our professionals are guided by your safety, your schedule, your operations and your economic benefits. The five percent of assets deployed by clients in the form of land capital can represent a business opportunity — even if it's impacted by contaminants. MWH approaches contaminated land issues with a bias towards unlocking asset value and removing economic uncertainty. We combine proven in-situ and ex-situ technologies with a project management approach. This puts us in "your shoes," as we rehabilitate impacted properties with a sense of urgency. Diverse Programs Our projects have ranged from simple excavation activities to building sophisticated physical, chemical and biological treatment systems. In fact, MWH developed, constructed and now operates the world's largest bioremediation plant for treating explosive-contaminated soil at Juliet Ammunition Plant in Illinois (USA). MWH has built remedial groundwater and soil remediation systems for soil vapor extraction (SVE), air sparging, biological treatment, low temperature thermal desorption, reductive dehalogenation and funnel-and-gate. We feature state-of-the-art technologies and approaches, such as risk-based clean up, insitu bioremediation and the use of guar gum to remediate soils, which have saved clients millions of dollars. Our experts have drilled soil borings in every conceivable terrain. And we've installed and sampled thousands of monitoring wells to investigate releases from industrial site sources. These include underground storage tanks, landfills, mines and surface impoundments. MWH has dealt safely with chemicals such as polychlorinated biphenyl's (PCBs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), metals, solvents, and explosives. Our employees are fully trained in epidemiology, toxicology, environmental health sciences and deterministic and probabilistic risk modeling. Pioneering New Technology MWH employs data management and analysis techniques such as numerical models and geographic information systems (GIS) for more accurate findings. In fact, our company is an industry leader in using models that effectively identify and restore ordinance and explosives (OE). This data management and analysis system is helping to eliminate unexploded ordinance and chemical warfare material at current or former defense sites. False-positive digs (no OE found) have decreased from 70 to 30 percent. As a result, remediation costs have been sharply reduced.
