"Supporting a Vital Link in World Transport"

How can the Panama Canal be maintained properly so that it remains a vital link in world transport for the next 50 years and beyond?

That's a key objective for MWH, thanks to an indefinite delivery contract by the Panama Canal Authority. For more than 80 years, the 50-mile-long Panama Canal has provided an invaluable alternative route around South America for trade and shipping. Nearly 14,000 ships and pleasure crafts annually pass through the canal’s intricate lock system.

Indefinite Delivery Contract

MWH’s contract is for civil, structural, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, environmental, cost, hydroelectric and hydraulic engineering; and for architectural design services. Specifically, it consists of the following major elements:

  • Design and rehabilitation of navigation locks and dams
  • Flood control and water supply dams
  • Navigational channels and dredging operations
  • Hydroelectric power projects
  • Tunneling
  • Water diversion channels
  • Water supply and distribution facilities
  • Water quality
