"Protecting a Growing City's Water Resources"

Can the city of Atlanta improve its water quality and still reduce its long-term operating costs?

To grapple with this challenge, the U.S. city has selected MWH to help manage its $1.9 billion, 14-year Wastewater System Improvement Construction Program.

This complex project is designed to improve Atlanta's water quality and protect the city's streams and water resources from future pollution.

Practical Solutions

MWH will work closely with city officials to:

  • Reduce long-term operating costs
  • Support region-wide solutions
  • Ensure fulfillment of federal regulations established by the Environmental Protection Agency and Environmental Protection Division

As managing lead for Atlanta's Clean Water Program Team, MWH is partnering with joint-venture partner, Atlanta-based Khafra Engineering. Together, they will assess the most practical means of addressing the metropolitan area's key environmental concerns.

Their comprehensive plan targets:

  • Combined sewer system (CSS) treatment facilities
  • Wastewater treatment facilities
  • Pumping stations
  • Collection systems
  • Greenway Acquisition Program
  • Public education and community outreach programs
