It's no secret that the exponential growth of the world's population and industrial development have tremendously impacted our aquatic environments.  At the same time, the global community now recognizes how critical fisheries are to the world's economic, nutritional and recreational resources.

Projects Around the World

As an industry leader, MWH is deeply committed to advancing technologies for sustainable development of fisheries. Over the years, we have developed comprehensive expertise in fish facility planning and design, including upstream passage (i.e., fish ladders, lifts), downstream passage (i.e., screens, surface collectors and bypass systems), hatcheries, test facilities, aquariums and other structures.

Over the years, we have provided engineering design, technical assistance and training to:

  • Construct three state-of-the-art fish hatcheries for the State of Utah, Division of Wildlife Resources, each capable of producing over 100,000 pound of fish per year.
  • A $27-million Egyptian Aquaculture Development Project for the Government of Egypt.
  • Fish and shellfish producers in Asia and Latin America (both private and public sectors), helping them to achieve a disease-free water supply from a contaminated source - the ocean.
  • Several aquatic parks, including a $15-million installation at Sea World of Florida and the sophisticated closed water recycling systems at the Baltimore Aquarium and Sea World of Ohio. Additionally, all engineering elements of the Living Seas Pavilion at Disney Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida.
  • A $1.7-million study for the San Diego (California) Region Water Reclamation Agency, which evaluated the use of aquatic plants and animals for wastewater treatment.
